Photo Contest: Celebrating Imperfect Parenting

27 May 2011 5 Comments

There’s a lot of pressure out there to be a perfect parent. To have the perfect sleeper, eater, and play-er all while pushing the perfect stroller. In reality, we’re all just doing what we can every day. Of course we want to do our best for our kids but we’re humans, not machines. In the world of baby caring where sleep is limited and tempers (both the toddler in your home and yours) run high, who needs the stress of trying to be a Perfect Mom?

Living rooms get messy. Dinner gets thrown together at the last second (and may include a microwave and or cereal bowl), and socks might not get changed but as long as baby is smiling and laughing through it all and sleeping (semi) soundly at night, haven’t you done a bang up job?

Next week marks the last week of Pregnancy Awareness Month. Let’s show first time moms-to be that motherhood can be laid back and FUN! Glossy magazines may present an image of parenting that is polished and all about the next trend…who has time for that?

We’re celebrating with an Imperfect Parenting Contest! One person will win a Twin Pack of BornFree Bottles.

How to Enter:

1. Email in or post an imperfect but delightful photo on Facebook. You know, the kind that would never make it into a magazine or be put in a baby modeling portfolio but that always makes you smile.

Serious cereal crushing going on.

Kids busy at crushing cereal on the family’s leather couches.

2. Get a bonus entry by leaving a comment below about an awesomely imperfect parenting moment.

“I once dropped my daughter off at daycare without shoes on. Good thing they have carpet!”

Be imperfect and proud! Contest ends next week. Good luck!

The winner is Lexia with the following comment:

(Bonus points for the cover up!)

Thank you for all of the great entries! Please email moms@newbornfree.com to claim your prize.

“For me, my story is about my oldest son (just turned 3) we were in the super market waiting in line for our groceries when all of a suddent my son pipes up (out of nowhere) really loud: sh*t (yikes, I had no clue he even knew that world, lol) and I turned beat red but covered nicely when after he announce the s-bomb really loud that, oh ‘you want to sit? You want to sit down? This did help as everyone in line thought nothing of it after I announced he must be asking to sit down…haha!”

I once packed my daughters diaper bag with all the things you should pack, her fav toys, snacks, diapers & a change of clothes..but during our one hour family photo session to celebrate her first year she signed that she wanted MILK, I was so shocked to see that I forgot the formula and felt like a horrible Mom. Thank goodness we were only a few blocks away from home and that she was able to tell us exactly what she wanted.

At 6 weeks old, My little guy fell of the couch as i only turned away for a second. Most horrifying thing ever but I had been nursing, and it was spraying everywhere, there was a cat on my lap too and hubby of course was in the bathroom. Put him down for a second to grab a cloth and he rolled off, thank goddness it was only a few inches to the floor and no obstacles but learned very quickly to never do that again! I felt so bad and spent most of the day in tears myself. we all ended up okay in the end and now can laugh about it, sort of!

Last thanksgiving we went to the farm over an hour away from our home when i brought everything under the sun for my daughter in her diaper bag: snacks, wipes, clothes, etc. — everything except diapers and ofcourse she had a massive poo we had to find the nearest shopper’s drugmart [which was miles away]
