For the past couple of years I’ve been fascinated with the concept of ecovillages: small family-run communities where people live, work, and play together. The lifestyles of these communities are sustainable and eco-conscious. Many of these villages have small schools on site. Meals are prepared in community and everyone chips in for a holistic, warm experience.

“Something is wrong…we need to go to the hospital now”…that was my wife’s anxious phone call to me at 1:49 PM. At 2:18 PM my son was born by emergency c-section but those 29 minutes in the middle are the story here. I was just a couple of minutes from home when she called and I rushed in where my wife who was 37 weeks pregnant was crying, on the phone with the hospital and in a panic.

I got a sweet Mother’s Day card this year from my 3-year-old son. Inside, his teachers recorded his answers to a few questions they asked about me.
According to him, my favorite color is pink (I can see that), my hair is black (so I’m thinking it’s time for some highlights), and what do I do while he is at school? I “make the Easter Bunny eggs.” Uhhh… I thought I was being sneaky about that.
